Bere Alston to Tavistock Questions and answers

Who is Kilbride Community Rail Limited?

Kilbride Community Rail is a specialist infrastructure developer with a track record in delivering rail schemes on time and on budget.

What is proposed?

Kilbride Community Rail proposes to reinstate the Tavistock to Bere Alston rail line and develop the existing Gunnislake to Plymouth rail service.

When will this happen?

The planning and legal process will take approximately 2-3 years and up to an additional year to build the rail line.

When will the railway line be finished?

Given the above, the earliest the railway line could be completed is anticipated to be by 2011.

Who will pay?

Kilbride Community Railway will fund the entire project from the proceeds of residential development.

How many homes?

The H9 site is already identified for 250 dwellings in the West Devon Borough Council Adopted Local Plan. Kilbride Community Rail is proposing to add a further 500 dwellings as part of an extension to the H9 site.

What will it be like?

The detailed designs for the scheme will be subject to consultation once they are produced at a later stage. Kilbride Community Rail intends to take into account and promote environmentally sustainable principles throughout the development process.

How many trains per day?

The aim is to provide at least an hourly service subject to a demand study.

How long will it take to Plymouth?

It will take approximately 35 minutes to travel from Tavistock to Plymouth.

What will be proposed at the station?

The station and housing site will be designed to provide on site parking, cycling facilities, footpath access and a bus interchange.

What happens next?

West Devon Borough Council is currently in the process of consulting with the public through a number of roadshows to present future development options for the Borough.
Kilbride will be making representations to the West Devon Borough Council Core Strategy consultation
process in March, to support these proposals.
A detailed demand study for the rail service will now be progressed.

Do I have a say?

Kilbride Community Rail would welcome any comments or suggestions on the proposed rail project, so that a service designed for the local community can be developed.
Kilbride Community Rail intends to progress work on the proposals throughout 2008 and will consult with West Devon Borough Council, local residents, community groups and interested parties as part of this process.
